Reading Notes: Epified Krishna, Part A
Here is my understanding of how Part A of the Krishna videos go (from The Krishna Series from Epified):
Kamsa, a cruel king, was given a prophecy that the eighth child of his cousin and her husband would be the one to slay him. So, he imprisoned them and killed every one of their children by throwing the child against the wall after they were born. However, when the eighth child was born, the father took the child, a boy and the eighth incarnation of Vishnu, and swapped it with the child of Yashoda, born the same day. However, Kamsa discovered that the child he killed was not the correct one, so he began searching the kingdom for babies and killing them.
Eventually, Kamsa heard of Krishna and sent after him one of his trusted agents, a demoness. She took Krishna away from Yashoda and into the forest, where she had the intent of feeding him poisoned milk from her breast. However, as she was feeding him, she realized Krishna was not only drinking the milk but taking her life force away, weakening her. This eventually killed her, and Krishna survived. Yashoda found him next to the demoness' body and took him back home.
This demoness was not the only monster sent by King Kamsa to kill Krishna. He sent many more, and each was slain just as the demoness was. Krishna also had an encounter with the god Indra. Krishna had convinced his village to worship a significant hill instead of Indra for the coming rains. Angered, Indra sent torrential downpours and thunder towards the villages. To save his people, Krishna lifted the entire hill with his pinky finger to shield his people from the rain and thunder. Indra realized he was defeated, and came down to Krishna, begging for his forgiveness.
Epified also animated the tale of Krishna and Radha. Radha was a Gopi - a cowherd girl. She and Krishna loved each other very much. One day, Radha's friends convinced Radha to drink hot milk in a test to see her devotion to Krishna. They told her that Krishna wanted her to drink this hot milk, so, being so in love with Krishna, she did it without complaints. In a miraculous turn of events, it was Krishna's mouth that was burned and not Radha's.
