Wikipedia Trail from Rakshasa to Epoch

Rakshasa

I started my journey on the Wikipedia page for the Rakshasa because they were a focus for a few of the chapters in the Mahabharata. The escape of the Pandava brothers and Kunti into the forest and the confrontation of the chief Rakshasa was one of my favorite parts of the Mahabharata. This article mentions the Rakshasas were created from the breath of Brahma at the end of the Satya Yuga, which leads me to my next article.

Satya Yuga

My interest in the Rakshasa led me here, to the article on the Satya Yuga. I've never been good with learning time periods in history courses, but they were one of my favorite parts. Breaking history into segments and giving short bulletin points to highlight events in each period of time was a great way to learn history in my opinion. The Satya Yuga is one of four Yugas, called "The Era of Truth." It's said to have been the purest time period, golden age, etc.

Yuga

My interest in the Satya Yuga led me to the article on the Yugas in general. Yugas are epochs in Hinduism, and there are four of them in total so far. Curiously, the third one ended in "3102 BCE with the end of the Kurukshetra War (or Mahabharata war)," which is a focus of the Mahabharata. We are in the fourth Yuga.

Mahabharata War

My interest in the Yuga led me naturally to the Mahabharata War because it shared a common title with the epic we were reading in class. Interestingly enough, it is the exact war that is depicted in the epic Mahabharata. It is a war between the Kauravas and the Pandavas following a conflict in succession of Hastinapura.
